The Induction Spotlight provides highlights for SIATech Induction program participants and educators who may be interested in this high-quality Induction program.

 

The Mid-Term 2011-2012 Induction Spotlight is a great introduction to SIATech’s BTSA Induction program. SIATech recently opened its program to any school that does not have a district program and would like to provide the Tier II program required by the state of California. This two-year state-accredited program is a terrific opportunity for teachers to clear their credential. SIATech is thrilled by the positive response from the community and welcomes educator participants from Job Corps and other area schools. Read more…

 

The Summer 2010 Induction Spotlight includes examples of Year 2 Teacher Inquiries. “Teacher Inquiry”, also referred to as “Action Research”, is defined as a systematic study by teachers of their own practice. The 2009 – 2010 SIATech Induction participants and New Teacher Cohort participants engaged in exploring aspects of their teaching through these inquiries. Supported by their mentors, each instructional staff member reflected on their practices weekly and developed new applications and strategies based on the evidence of learning they documented. This “Inquiry Stance” toward teaching helped all to move towards an increased understanding of their own instructional practice and possible solutions to support the learning of their students.Read more…

 

The Spring 2010 Induction Spotlight discusses the “Teaching English Language Learners” workshops that were recently held. Held in both San Diego and Miami, the workshops focused on group differences, content-based strategies informed by test data, and more. The Induction Spotlight includes a spotlight written by Paula Lempert on SIATech Inland Empire’s Math Teacher Daniela Cufuioti, who is recognized for her innovative ways to keep her students motivated and engaged. Winter 2009 Induction Spotlight: The Induction / New Teacher Cohort Program kicked off the 2009-10 term with 22 teachers on the West Coast and six teachers on the East Coast. Particularly for teachers who are new to SIATech, a charter high school focused on dropout recovery, these programs provide critical mentorship support and professional development opportunities for collaboration with a cohort of fellow instructors. As Lisa Kemp, English teacher at Jacksonville SIATech said, “I appreciate the many opportunities for PD [professional development] offered by SIATech. It’s good to know I am not alone.” Read more…

 

The Summer 2009 edition profiles a couple of exciting trainings. Diane Fairchild and Paul Lempert led a discussion on teaching special populations. And, Val Callet presented a full-day workshop on teaching English Language Learners and students of diverse backgrounds. Feedback from the participants demonstrate the immediate applicability of the tranings. In response to a question about how the training will enhance what he or she already does for students, one participant replied, “I will add resources to lessons and approach Special Ed or ELL students with a better understanding of their learning styles.” The Summer 2009 edition also extends its congratulations to the two California BTSA Induction graduates: Luke Sponsler(History teacher, SIATech San Diego) and Maya Getsova (ELL/English, SIATech San Diego). The Fall 2008 edition follows SIATech’s Year 2 participants as they enter their final year toward earning their Clear Credential.
