Our Story
SIATech believes that all students have the ability to become productive, thinking, contributing members of the community when given the tools, motivation, opportunity, and support they need.
Partnership with Job Corps
In 1998, a unique partnership was formed between SIATech (known as Guajome Park Academy until June 2004), a public charter high school affiliated with the Vista Unified School District in southern California, and the Inland Empire Job Corps center in San Bernardino, CA. Job Corps is a federal program that provides outreach to disadvantaged urban youth, who have either had difficulty in traditional high school programs, dropped out of school, or are facing academic and/or personal challenges that make attending a traditional high school difficult or impossible. In 2004, SIATech became an independent charter school under VUSD and is no longer affiliated with Guajome Park Academy. SIATech excels at reaching students who have been out of school and have not experienced success in traditional educationl settings.
Since that initial partnership with the Inland Empire Center, SIATech has expanded its program to accommodate students at all of the California Job Corps centers, including San Diego, Long Beach, Los Angeles, San Jose, San Francisco, and Sacramento. Due to the successes of these partnerships, Job Corps has also implemented SIATech programs at centers in Arizona, Florida, and New Mexico.
SIATech currently serves approximately 1,900 students in California and an additional 1,400 students at sites outside of California.
High School Diploma Program
Students enrolled with the Job Corps program have traditionally been trained in vocational skills and offered the opportunity to earn a GED certification. However, SIATech offers another option for students interested in receiving a fully-accredited high school diploma. The program furnishes a computer for every student and boasts an average student/teacher ratio of 11:1.
This program is designed to combine elements that are deemed most necessary for students' lifetime success:
- Standards-based academic program focusing on literacy and numeracy;
- Life skills and job readiness; and
- Highly developed technology skills
